Meet the Chair: Colleen Guiney
Colleen Guiney is a retired Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a life-long Democrat. She has lived in Delaware County for most of her life, graduating from Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor. While a student there, she had her first experience serving the community: tutoring children in reading at the Millcreek Community Center in West Philadelphia. She completed a Sociology degree at Princeton University and then served as an organizer at the Corrymeela Community, the oldest peace and reconciliation organization in Northern Ireland.
When she returned from Ireland, Colleen turned to Nursing, completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University and working as a nurse and administrator in New York and Philadelphia. Later, she earned her Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania and become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Since that time, For the next 25 years, she has cared for children from across our region. Colleen has also served as President of the Delaware Valley chapter of NAPNAP, the organization for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
Colleen and her husband raised their family in Delaware County. She has volunteered for the Democratic Party for the last two decades in a variety of capacities, helping elect Democrats up and down the ballot. She served as Chair of the Swarthmore Democratic Committee and a member of the PA State Democratic Committee, before being elected by acclamation as Chair of the Delaware County Democrats in June of 2018. Colleen seeks to work shoulder to shoulder with those who agree with President Obama when he said, “We choose hope over fear. We see the future not as something out of our control, but as something we can shape for the better through concerted and collective effort…We choose to work for the world as it should be, as our children deserve it to be.”
