Even with tax cut, Dem Delco councilman says county could slash more

HomeNewsEven with tax cut, Dem Delco councilman says county could slash more

From the Delco Times,

“Councilman Brian Zidek said about 5 percent of the budget could be shaved.

“We shouldn’t just lower taxes without addressing the corruption that wastes millions of tax dollars every year,” he said.

“I’ve come to conclude a big part of the problem is that Delco citizens pay a corruption tax,” Zidek said, pointing to “instance after instance of no-bid contracts being granted to Republican Party insiders.”

He continued, “Though I also expected to find Republican Party insiders given jobs at the county, I’ve been shocked to see how widespread the issue is. When the head of the Republican Party of Delaware County is also on the county payroll – and incidentally, I’ve never actually seen him at the Government Center in the entire year that I have been working here – and when the brother of the head of the Delaware County Republican Party is the superintendent of the county jail earning hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation, you’ve got a problem. And when the Republican D.A. takes asset forfeiture money and spends it on billboards and advertisements in an effort to influence an election, you’ve got a problem.””
