Baulis and Innelli for Delaware County Council By Rev. Marie E. deYoung
Rumor has it that Delaware County Democrats are going to win seats on the Delaware County Council for the first time in ages.
Nancy Baulis, an active Democrat for more than 30 years, is campaigning vigorously for a seat on the County Council.
As a lifelong public servant, and a resident of Springfield, PA, Nancy Baulis presented a dignified, powerful agenda to the Lansdowne Dems during one of our monthly meetings. She also projected her campaign platform with charisma during the televised debate between primary candidates for the County Council Seats.
Nancy Baulis is a teacher in the Philadelphia public school system. She has a daughter, and she is a grandmother. As an advocate for community services, and for citizen participation, she promises to hold evening forums if she is elected, to make sure that all citizens can participate in county government. Right now, meetings are held at 10:00 a.m., which means most working people can not participate in County government meetings.
Baulis is advocating for a County Health Department, to ensure that we have vaccines and the ability to monitor local disease trends. If you’ve never had a health department, I guess you could wonder why we need one. But as a chaplain, I have lived in small rural communities where young people were stricken with meningitis and senior citizens were at risk during outbreaks of the flu. In those communities, students and seniors could go to the county health department for special vaccines, at affordable costs.
Baulis is going to fight for that same kind of support in Delaware County. She has not only worked as a teacher, but she worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She can negotiate the system because she knows what each agency does, and how county and borough governments must work with state agencies to bring healthy resources to the community.
Nancy Baulis has a B.S. in Elementary Education from West Chester University. She has raised funds for Archbishop Prendergast High School and Thorncroft Equestrian Center, and she is the president of the Zonta Club of Delaware Valley.
While we are thinking about the democrats who could shape Delaware County Government for the Twenty-First Century, I hope that you will also get to know John Innelli well enough to put your full support behind his candidacy.
John is an attorney, who fights fraud in the insurance industry. He graduated from the University of PA with a degree in economics and business. He lives in Rose Valley with his wife Holly and his children. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee since 1994.
Let’s face it. We have a winning team here. A mother-teacher and an economist-attorney who want to bring progressive, democratic values to our county government. I hope you will seek opportunities to get to know Nancy Baulis and John Innelli in the years ahead. But most of all, I hope you vote for them in November, so that our County Council can move into the future! |
