MINNESOTA COLLEGE DEMOCRATS

TO INVADE PENNSYLVANIA IN TWO CITIES TOUR

Minnesota Young Patriots Tour to make Stops in

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia on the way to Boston

Philadelphia, PA – As Democrats across the country gear up for the Democratic National Convention in Boston, the Pennsylvania Young Democrats and Pennsylvania Federation of College Democrats will welcome a busload of Minnesota College Democrats to Pennsylvania with rallies and campaign events in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia on Friday, July 23, 2004.

The Minnesota College Democrats pre-convention campaign tour will stop in key battleground states including Wisconsin and Ohio, and will end with a 4:30 PM rally at Dilworth Plaza, across from Philadelphia’s City Hall, on Friday. City Controller Jonathan Saidel will officially welcome the Minnesota group to the City of Brotherly Love, followed by a voter registration and campaign visibility event at Suburban Station and Market East Station in Philadelphia.

The group will be joined by Young Democrats earlier in the day to canvass in Pittsburgh during the morning rush hour. They will work to register voters and hand out literature starting at 7:30 AM in Market Square, the spot where Senator John Kerry announced John Edwards as his choice for Vice President. Prior to boarding their bus for Philadelphia, the Minnesota group will meet with elected officials at the Kurtzman Room at the University of Pittsburgh to talk about important issues in the state.

The pre-convention tour is a prelude to a September Campaign Invasion in Philadelphia by Young Democrats from seven Mid-Atlantic States who will spend a weekend canvassing and registering voters throughout Southeast Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania College Democrats President Jill Stracko said, “It’s wonderful to see so many young people join together for progress. This will be an exciting day, and an important step in carrying Pennsylvania for the Democratic ticket.”

“Everyone knows Pennsylvania is a critical state,” said Pennsylvania Young Democrats President Tony Campisi. “We are excited to welcome our fellow Democrats from Minnesota. We all know the road to the White House cuts through Pennsylvania. And with their help, PA will be a Kerry-Edwards state on November 2.”
