The Pennsylvania Primary: What Happened in Delaware County?
Last week’s Democratic Primary saw a record turnout by Democrats across Pennsylvania and Delaware County. It is estimated that 68% of active Democrats in Delaware County voted on April 22. In the state, Hillary Clinton received1,245,911 votes, or 54.6%, while Barack Obama received 1,037,953 votes, or 45.4%, a difference of 9.2%.
In Delaware County, Obama received 52,380 votes, about 56%, while Clinton received 41,944 votes, about 44%, a difference of 11%. These results are machine numbers only and do not include 2551 absentee ballots, 252 military ballots and an undetermined number of provisional ballots that are still being counted.
Obama carried 22 municipalities including Aldan, Chadds Ford, Chester, Chester Twp, Collingdale, Colwyn, Darby Boro, Darby Twp, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, Media, Middletown, Morton, Nether Providence, Radnor , Rose Valley Sharon Hill, Swarthmore, Thornbury, Upper Darby, Upper Providence and Yeadon.
Two municipalities are still to close - Rutledge and Haverford. Clinton
carried the remaining 25 municipalities.
Congressional Districts
In the 1st District, Barack Obama won and will received 5 delegates to Clinton’s 2 delegates.
In the 7th District, Hillary Clinton in is unofficially leading but full results of the paper ballots are needed to determine which candidate will get the fourth delegate. At present time, each candidate will receive three delegates from the 7th District. All delegate totals are incomplete with votes from all three counties needing to be added up to determine the rank order within the gender groups of delegate candidates.

Rob Mccord won the Democratic Primary vote State Treasurer and is
the Democratic nominee for November. The vote in Delaware County was as follows:

State Legislature
The only contested Primary for State Representative was in the 163rd
Legislative District encompassing Lansdowne, Clifton Heights, Aldan and parts of
Ridley, Upper Darby and Darby Township. Endorsed candidate Kevin Lee handily
defeated challenger Bob Cassidy. Almost all Democratic candidates on the ballot
outpolled their respective Republican opponents due to the enthusiastic turnout
of registered Democrats around the county.
