And the Winner Is......

The Delaware County Democratic Party will bestow the 2006 Nathan Pechin Service Award upon the Honorable Judge Joseph "Ted" Doyle, former President Judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The award will be given at the Annual Nathan Pechin Award Breakfast on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Towne House in Media. 

A special posthumous award will be given to Martin Berger, member of the PA Democratic State Committee and former Chair of the Haverford Township Democratic Committee who passed away in June.

The invitation and program book information will be posted to the website in the next few days.
 

SEIU Endorses Farrell for Senate

The State Council of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) today endorsed Democratic State Senate candidate Michael T. Farrell for the 26 th District State Senate seat.

"I am extremely proud to have the endorsement of an organization as prestigious and hard working as the SEIU," Farrell said. "This proves that our ideas are resonating with the public."
 
The SEIU represents 60,000 members and their families in Pennsylvania.

The Debates

Watch state Treasurer Bob Casey Jr. in his first debate with Senator Rick Santorum THIS SUNDAY, September 3, 2006 on NBC's Meet the Press. The debate will air locally at 10:30 AM on NBC 10. Check your  local listings to verify time and station dependeing on your cable system. The debate should be re-broadcast later in the afternoon on MSNBC. The debate will be moderated by Tim Russert.

In addition, PCN has announced that he Farrell-Erickson debate between the candidates for the PA Senate in the 26th district will be broadcast on Mondays and Wednesdays for the next few weeks at 6:00 PM. PCN can be found on Comcast channel 76 in most of the county, or check your local station listings. The debate was held on August 23 and was a spirited discussion of issues relevant to constituents in the 26th Senatorial district.

 

Volunteer: Voter Registration

The Democratic Party has scheduled voter registration events at supermarkets throughout the county, repeating a successful program that helped register hundreds of new voters in 2004. Voter registration will be taking place every Saturday between now and October 7 at the following locations:

Sept 2 Acme in Upper Darby/Pathmark in Ridley
 
Sept 9 Acme in Granite Run (Middletown)/Pathmark in Glenolden
Sept 16 Superfresh in Manoa/Acme in Media
Sept 23 Acme in Clifton Heights and Upper Darby
Sept 30 Pathmark in Ridley/Acme in Granite Run
Oct 7 Pathmark in Glenolden/Superfresh in Manoa

Registration tables will operate from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. If you are interested in volunteering for this project, please email our voter registration director Felice Simelaro at felicesimelaro@comcast.net.

Rendell Lawn Signs Available

Lawn signs for  Rendell for Governor are now available at the Delaware County Democratic Party headquarters. Signs for Sestak, Casey and other candidates will also be available soon. Stop by the office at 316 E. Baltimore Pike in Media to pick up a sign!
