Wilson Re-elected County Chair
Incumbent Cliff Wilson, of Folcroft, emerged victorious Sunday in a tight
and sometimes contentious election for Chair of the Delaware County
Democratic Committee. The contest was unusually close as Wilson won a
historic 4th four year term.
After a two month campaign, Wilson and challenger Bruce Bikin conversed
about the future of the party yesterday after recounts confirmed Wilson
had won.
"If it isn't broken, why fix it," said Congressman Robert Brady, who
nominated Wilson. State Representative Thaddeus Kirkland, State
Representative candidate Marilyn Woodman, and Dr. Paul Scoles each
seconded the nomination of Wilson.
Chairman Wilson's first announcement to the assemblage was the
reappointment, as he had committed during the campaign, of Tony Campisi
of Marple as First Vice Chairman of the county party.
Wilson issued the following statement today, urging the party to put any
lingering division from the chairman's election behind and unite behind
the Democratic team of candidates on the ballot this year:
"Our contest over the chairmanship is ended. Now our work begins. Our
priority from now to November 7th is to elect Joe Sestak to Congress; Mike
Farrell to the State Senate; our state legislative candidates and of
course Gov. Rendell and Bob Casey for U.S. Senate. We can and will succeed
in doing just that."
