County Chair Blasts Judicial Ruling in School Board Race

"This isn’t Florida,” Democratic Chairman Cliff Wilson said in response to a Delaware County Common Pleas Court decision declaring that a Republican-endorsed candidate who received 98 votes for school director in Region 6 of the William Penn School District had defeated 277 write-in votes cast for Charlotte Hummel, the incumbent and Democratic Party-endorsed candidate.

“As a political party whose nomination has been stolen, and on behalf of 277 Democratic voters, I protest this outrage and have so informed the Board of Elections,” Wilson said. Ms Hummel will appeal the Court's decision to the Commonwealth Court, and Wilson announced that the Democratic Party would file an amicus brief in support of the right of voters to have their votes counted. “It’s Florida 2000 all over again - it’s Democrats demanding that every vote be counted and Republicans trying to win after the polls close what they couldn’t win when the polls were open.”

County Leaders Support Representative Vitali

The leaders of the Delaware County Democratic Party unanimously adopted a resolution at their September 8th meeting demanding that House Minority Leader H. William DeWeese reinstate Representative Greg Vitali's position as Chair of the Environmental Resources and Energy Subcommittee and re-instate constituent outreach funds that have been denied to Representative Vitali in the wake of his vote against the legislative pay increase in July.

Citing the actions of the minority leader, the resolution demands that "no legislator be punished in the future for casting a vote of principle and conscience." It further states that the party "joins Governor Rendell in calling for the immediate re-instatement of all Democratic legislators who have been removed from positions of leadership by Representative DeWeese."

Where we were promised prosperity, we find perdition. Where we were promised rebuilding, we find wreckage. Where we were promised victory and valor, we find instead ruin and reaction. Where we were promised unity, we find instead usury.
