We are sad to tell you that Dianne Merlino died April 18th after
a long battle with cancer. Family and friends gathered Sunday
afternoon at the Media Community Center to celebrate Dianne's
life. They shared memories and tributes with a standing-room
only crowd - mostly Democrats, but some Republicans including
County Chair Tom Judge.
Chairman Cliff Wilson headed a large delegation of Delco
Democrats. Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll delivered the first
eulogy, and Gov. Rendell, who was unable to attend, sent a
written message which was read to the gathering.
Dianne Merlino was elected Delaware County Chair 4 times, to
2-year terms in 1984, 1986 and 1988, then to a 4-year term in
1990. She was an indefatigable leader throughout her career, not
only in Delaware County, but also as Chair of the Southeast
Caucus of the PA Democratic Party and as a member of the
Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee.
One of the designated recipients of contributions in Dianne's
memory is her beloved Delaware County Democratic Party. You may
address the Party at 316 E. Baltimore Pike, Media PA 19063.
Dianne's husband, Harry, and their family will be notified of
all memorial donations.

Worth Repeating
Bob Casey Jr., though far from being the quintessential
Democratic candidate, represents our Party's best opportunity to
again make Pennsylvania light up blue in 2006. In the process
voters across the state can give Rick Santorum the one thing he
wants most - more family time.

Marple Twp, and PA Young Democrats Parliamentarian
