Wilson Urges State Party to Support
Howard Dean for DNC Chair
County
Chairman Cliff Wilson, in a letter to Pennsylvani Democratic Party Chair TJ
Rooney, has urged the PA delegation to the Democratic National Committee to
support Howard Dean for national chairman. “The state party has ten
national committee members, not counting innumerable at-large appointments, and
a reputation as a state that delvers to Democratic national candidates”,
Wilson said. "Our support of Dean could be a determinative factor in
the national chairman selection.” In
his letter to Rooney, who as state party chair leads the Pennsylvania DNC
delegation Wilson said in part: “One
individual, among those offering to lead this party, stands out well above the
rest in his accomplishments and his ability to articulate the message of the
Democratic Party. I am referring to former Vermont Governor Howard Dean. If
there is one preeminent task facing the next DNC chair, it is to keep the
involvement of the thousands (sixty thousand in Pennsylvania alone) of new
political activists energized by the 2004 campaign. Dean
not only has the enthusiasm of his own followers, he has the credentials to
bring... other groups of campaigners into the Democratic Party where they
belong. The
election of 2004 can become a positive one for Democrats if we use it to rebuild
and renew our party by opening the doors at every level to all those who were
active in any venue on our side. Or
we can be perceived as a party that will go back to business as usual: competing
with the Republicans to do the bidding of the large corporate money interests
and hiding from the label of its past and its roots and allowing others to paint
us as the tool of special interests.
Pennsylvania
showed the nation’s Democrats what
a competitive political state can do. And we in Delaware County are proud that
we showed how to improve our vote over four years ago. I
urge you to consider leading the Pennsylvania delegation behind the candidacy
of Howard Dean. This party must
have a national spokesman with the experience of governing and the willingness
to be outspoken in his leadership."
The members of the Democratic National Committee will meet in February to
elect the next DNC Chair.

Worth Repeating
The pundits have said that this election was decided on
the issue of moral values. I don't believe that. It is a moral value to
provide health care. It is a moral value to educate our young people. The
sense of community that comes from full participation in our democracy is
a moral value. It is a moral value to make sure that we do not leave our
own debts to be paid by the next generation. Honesty is a moral value.
If this election had been decided on moral values, Democrats would have won. Howard Dean December 13, 2004 |
