Congressman Joe Hoeffel joined a host of friends and supporters at a fundraiser for the Democratic Candidates for County Council - Paul Scoles, Bob Small and Debbie Thomas - at the home of Dr. Scoles on Wednesday, August 27, 2003.

The event host committee consisted of State Senator Connie Williams and State Representatives Greg Vitali and Thaddeus Kirkland.

Hoeffel is running for the US Senate seat currently held by Arlen Specter in 2004. Prior to his election to Congress, Hoeffel served two terms as a Montgomery County Commissioner. In his remarks, Hoeffel spoke of his own campaign, and of his experience running for county office. "I know it can get difficult and frustrating running as Democrats in theses suburban counties. But with good, strong candidates like Paul, Debbie and Bob, we can win, and I am happy to be part of that effort. On to Victory!"

"Go back to Mississippi; go back to Alabama; go back to South Carolina ... knowing this situation can, and will, be changed," he said, the rich baritone rising and falling, trembling, almost singing. "I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream."

--Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, August 28, 1963
